Die Schöne Familie: Leeds Central Library Exhibition Space (4-30 November 2013)

 

 

“Die Schöne Familie” is a group art show opening in Leeds tomorrow in the Exhibition Space of the Central Library. Consisting of works by seven contributors, some serious artists, some untrained dilettantes, some working with manipulated photographs, others with collage, screen-prints or the sculptural, what unites them, besides their overlapping yet individual aesthetics, is that all of their works are to be exhibited anonymously, thereby leaving the visitor to make their own connections and form their own evaluations unassisted. So, “Die Schöne Familie” becomes both the exhibition and, I believe, the beautiful collective "family" themselves who, an insider told me just the other day, are already planning a follow-up show for early in 2014 and are hoping to extend their membership as they meet sympathetic soulmates. 

I’m afraid I’m sworn to secrecy vis-a-vis revealing anything else about this event so I’d better shut my cakehole, right now. Go along and see it, if you’re in Leeds. It’s open, I assume, whenever the library is open and runs until the end of the month. You might even see work by one or two characters with whom you may just be familiar from reading selected entries on this blog. Whoops!!
